In dedication to the very only and one , Gena Rowlands, my categorically favourite actress who as she did here on earth for decades in her televisual and cinematic roles is no doubt perfecting her lines now on that great big movie set in the sky. Remembering her 11 o'clock performances in well... in everything really and anyone worth their salt would find it difficult to refute that. Banana spaghetti xoxo
In the brutal but beautiful film
A Woman Under the Influence (1974)
Gena Rowlands in her demented demigoddess best renders a potent performance as troubled house-wife Mabel Longhetti ,who is on the cuspis of madness whilst trying desperately to maintain a functional family life that has been compromised by an emotional illness. Peter Falk, born to be effortless, illuminates as her unwavering, loyal husband Nick in this 155 minute cinematic masterpiece.
This would clearly be one
of John Cassavetes' most poignant works, a veritable Verité . The retro-scripted and improvised acting were one of the director's calling cards and make for a most transfixing and transcendent unforgettable cinematic masterpiece. A testament to why John and everyone cast in this film is a hero to me personally.
Tales of Extraordinary Madness...Gena the genius.
