The Deuce Is Just Ace

And if Home Box Office are ever in need of a slogan that actually does good on it's promise is that HBO makes television great again. And this was no easy feat as television over the last few decades has become but a mere shadow of its former self and then go and enthrall us with a new series like The Deuce which was already picked up for a season two, but nine days into season one. And the avenue they're taking us to - 42nd street gets the full zeitgeist treatment and everything about it done to the contemporaneous penny. A fearless foray into the underbelly of the porn world with enough convincing and continuity to make you go and check the calendar on your kitchen wall.

The two icing on the cake leads - James Franco who does a double-act as good brother and bad brother twins, Vincent and Frankie Martino is certainly not to be missed, Franco is the effortless virtuoso, a mustachioed Dean with a Widmark kind of smile, finally meets his match after having his talent misguided in a middling picture or two on the Lifetime network. Maggie Gyllenhall who plays  Eileen 'Candy' Merrell is no shirker herself, and she sure could've   been given the nepotistic factor, knows how to bring this one on home. ( Those two very names on just paper maketh one helluva dream team).

Two brothers from the same mutha

The series is still young and my mission is not to dole out any such spoilers, those are serious anathema to your humble filmographer, I am only here to spread some awareness of this absolutely astute period-drama that sashays itself down to HBO each Sunday at 9 on the button, now turn on and tune in - ya dig?
